Revolutionising Company Culture: 5 Innovative Management Strategies
The role of managers must evolve radically. They should not be judges or experts, but rather guides or mentors. This paradigm shift will enable the rise of more trusting relationships where the employee is in the driver's seat, empowered to make the best decisions for their career growth and for the company. This will result in better communication, healthier culture, higher productivity, and increased wellbeing.
Here are 5 innovative management strategies to revolutionise company culture:
1. Amplify employee voices
Organise regular meetings with employees to discuss agenda items such as culture, benefits, strategy, manager-employee relationships, and innovative practices.
Some employees have a perspective, understanding and exposure that enables them to provide pragmatic and original solutions to corporate problems.
2. Embrace transparency on goal progress
Once per month, have a checkpoint among employees from the same team where each member can input their progress towards team goals. These data points are then communicated upwards for global assessment of progress towards corporate goals.
The information should also be accessible to any employee in the form of data visualisation or a dashboard.
Additionally, there should be quarterly updates on goal progress during All-Hands.
3. Empower manager-guides
Managers often feel isolated in their roles. They face doubts and challenges but lack someone to share them with. To foster knowledge and wisdom among managers, organise regular meetings between managers to discuss goals, strengths, and share knowledge and practices.
Hold these meetings once per month for senior managers and once per week for more junior managers who need more regular guidance.
Managers can choose their preferred format—whether it’s one-on-one mentoring or larger group sessions. The goal is to provide managers with a space to reflect, address doubts, ask questions, and foster growth.
Consider inviting an external expert if needed.
Good management is critical to the company’s health, and peer learning and support play a vital role.
4. Implement self-evaluation rituals
Ditch traditional performance reviews. Having managers assess employees creates a parent-child dynamic, which removes power from individuals and has harmful consequences on productivity and culture. Instead, empower individuals to reflect on their own performance once per month.
The manager-guide would ask them these questions:
→ How well do you think you did this week regarding the goals you set for yourself?
→ What goals do you want to set for yourself for the next week regarding work and relationships?
→ How do you want to contribute to the culture and the greater mission?
This would transform the culture greatly, empowering and motivating people.
5. Celebrate achievements
Twice per year, host an in-person reunion with every company member and celebrate the achievement of corporate goals. This is very important and often overlooked!
Anchor celebrations of achievements would raise people’s vibrations, inspiring them to achieve even greater things.
Make it a party and celebrate everything from reaching milestones and demonstrating values to embracing culture and honouring relationships. That’s all! This will revolutionise the culture like nothing else. It is all about the power of celebrations…
